Help from my Torontonian People

Hello Canadians,

We are thinking about going to Toronto on July 3 and 4 with our kids, ages 3, 6 and 9. We are thinking of going to Wonderland or Center Island. Have any of you gone to Wonderland or Center Island with kids those ages? Would we be able to do things together, or would we have to split up to find age-apprpriate activities at those places? Also, is July 4 (monday) a holiday in Canada, or will people be working - shorter lines is a plus!

Are there other kid-friendly activities to do there?

Or should we follow the Tigers to Cleveland for a double header on the 4th?

I would include Ontario Place into your list of options, if it still exists.

Hey, I'm sorry: I'm out of town on the 19th, and we won't be around in the city July 4th --we're looking for American fireworks for July 4th. Civic holiday here is July 1. Some or many people might also have the Monday off, though.

Re. Wonderland: yes, your 9-year-old would be able height/weight wise to go on rides with you that the little ones can't go on, but they have a kiddieville section of decent rides. Center Island is much more tame, and the ferry ride is fun for the kids.

Yes, there's the varied Ontario Place; there's the Science Center, and if you're a member of a Detroit-based one, you should get free admission here (but that's indoors and it sounds as if you want to be outside.

Also go online and look up "KIDSUMMER TORONTO 2005"-- summerlong programming at different venues throughout the city; some you need to preregister for, others are free or minimal admission. Look if there's something happening then. (I have the calendar, but it's downstairs, it's 1:11 a.m. and I'm lazy to get it.)

If you don't want to venture all the way to Toronto, except maybe to eat, go instead to Hamilton, about 40 minutes west of Toronto, and visit the AFRICAN LION SAFARI (or there's the Toronto Zoo--both the safari and the zoo have water areas for kids to play in)--I regress from age 43 to 10 at the safari. You can walk around or also pay a bit more and drive your car through a trail where the animals come right up to the car--eg. a lion can be nearby and a few feet away is a black bear...and then the monkeys are the best as they sit on your car and scratch themselves in full view of your family, with no shame whatsover...

Too bad we're not around then;
would have loved to host your mishpoche.

Google all these places, or go to www.attractionsontario.ca or something like that. Good luck.

I vote for Ontario Place. Not as overwhelming as Wonderland, and there's stuff for all of your kids ages. We went with our kids at very similar ages, and it was a blast.

If you go to Centre Island (not 'center', Born Abroad) I wonder if they still have those 4-person bicycles you can rent. The last time I was there, like 20 years ago, I loved those.

Born Again -
If we end up going to Toronto we should get in touch. Might be fun to get together for a beer or something.

Isn't it sacreligios to go to Canada, the home of the loyalists on July 4th?

I always enjoy the visit to the Molson (soon to be Coors) factory.

storybook gardens is a non-starter. Our oldest already said he doesnt want to go back there, and he hasn't been there in four years.
