The 4th, Midwest Style

Ya'll missed a great parade today in our town. It was so exciting, Air actually fell asleep on one of those tent chairs. It was somethin'.

The parade was complete with Miss Michigan, Miss Teen Michigan Talent, and Miss Tween Queen Michigan. Also not to be missed was our very own Unicycle Club, Jewish War Veterans and their Ladies Auxilliary, and the OP Seniors with their red hats.

The parade lasted about an hour and flags and candy, usually Kosher, were tossed out to the kids. One of my favorite features is always the marching band, but, now that my children are of embarassment age, I am no longer allowed to dance in the style of the young baton twirlers. I guess I'll have to practice that in the kitchen, instead.

And tonight, Air and I are going to barbeque. As is the practice among our people.

Did anybody else celebrate the 4th in the manner befitting a red-blooded Jewish American? (Or American Jew...Don't mean to be philosophical here)

I had proper July Fourth BBQ, with Canadians who couldn't get anyone together for their day, English'ers to show they don't still bare a grudge, and Israelis who were appreciative of the fact that Americans started the decline of the British Empire, thus allowing Israel to "fall" under Jewish rule.

Actually - we had "American-style" food in our cafeteria, and celebrated being good American Jews.

By living in Israel.

We had a nice bbq, ok, so the hot dogs were israeli, the grill was a throw away and MyShan isnt American (yet!). But we did have a guy dressed in a shirt he designed himself, complete with flowers and all, which in my head just seems American.

We had our 4th of July BBQ in the Holy Land, tonight. I don't know why, but it was still festive and patriotic, w/ an Israeli style to it. Everyone there was American as well as Israeli (with the exception of some family visitors), and nobody seemed to mind that we were doing it a day late. Great meat, but for some reason, there were a lot of bees, which is really weird here in the summer. They're not supposed to be back until September. Ah well, doesnt really make a difference. The fact is the Constitution wasn't completely signed and ratified until March of 1781. So, take your pick. Happy belated B-day, America!!!
