I don't usually make political statements on this blog, or anywhere else for that matter, but I was astounded by these stats in response to a Haaretz Op-Ed on the web. If these statistics are accurate, we are in bigger trouble than I thought. There is power in numbers. As of right now, there are 6,000,000 Jews in Israel. I know, a meaningful number.
But only people who still haven't made Aliyah can increase our numbers significantly. If you all come and bring your families, we'll out-number them.
Seriously, I'm waiting for you.

Ahem...There is also a way those who have already made Aliyah (or were born in Israel, for that matter) can help with the demographic problem; it is actually known as "Aliyat P'nim!" (internal Aliyah!)

Actually, most demographic numbers are wrong. This is the same argument that has been used since 1948 and, so far, Palestinians have NOT neared any-where near the so called demographic reality that these statistics claim. In fact, most statistics show that Israel is growing at a FASTER rate than previously believed. We have the only + birth rate differential of any developed country, and we have a higher per child capita than Arabs living in Israel. Demographics aren't the problem, but if you want to use that to get people to make Aliyah, Kol Ha'Kavod. Whatever works.

TO: OC - That's what I was referring to - the "plus" birthrate - which I think would be even greater, if more Olim would just focus more on the demographic problem and see that one solution is, indeed, Aliyah P'nimit!
