Is it great if no one cares
Let me start with this. I think Lance Armstrong’s accomplishments are remarkable. Even without cancer. Throw in the cancer, and his seven straight Tour de France victories go from phenomenal to off the charts.
But does anyone really care?
Let me put it another way. I watched more poker on TV over the past two weeks than Tour De France coverage. And I get OLN, the network that broadcast the bike race.
This whole Armstrong thing reminds me of Gretzky playing Hockey in LA. A wondrous talent doing something no one really cared about.

Howard Stern once had a guest who was able to draw a realistic portait of Howard on an Etch-a-sketch.
Howard was amazed, but commented, "what an incredible, remarkable, and utterly useless talent."
You're both on the money.
he is tested more than anyone on the planet. I don't think he is. Even if he is, does doping matter?
Because if he can cover it up, so can everyone else, so we have a level playing field.
Well there are those who actually care about their health and don't dope.
Not exactly fair to them.
I'd think that someone with the exposure he gets would have to be an idiot to dope. Not sating there aren't idiot around, but still...

Lance was a good story when he came back from cancer, before he dumped his wife for his therapist and eventually hooked up with Sheryl Crow. Now he is just another egocentric maniac with a competitive drive to match. No matter how hard the media tries, it is a non-story.

Sorry, all of you. I really love watching him pedal across that finish line. Makes me cry every year. He overcame a disease that millions of people succumb to every year. He didn't just sit by. He went after it, and continued on with his life. He's a hero.
I was at a conference a few months ago. I was talking to a vendor who was around sixty and lived in Austin. He told me how, the night before his daughter's high school graduation, he was talking to her friends and asking what they would do come the next September. They all gave typical responses, like going to the local universities or taking a year off to work or travel. One guy said he was going to ride bikes. The father asked what about the kid's life and the kid responded that he would ride bikes. He thought that he was good enough to make a living. That kid was Lance Armstrong. I found that story kind of cool, especially with the guy telling it in his Texan twang. Of course, given how Texans like to brag about everything, the whole story could have been BS.
