Monday Night Activity

Last night, Air and I watched a great movie called "Coach Carter" starring Samuel L. Jackson. (Of "The Negotiator" fame. "You are NOT in control!") The plot was amazing, and I need to find out if the story is completely true or had some Hollywood moments tossed in.

The storyline is as follows: Richmond High School (Rich-What?) has a losing basketball team, and Coach Carter is brought in to save it. He cares more about the education of the students and in making them self-respecting men, than he cares about basketball. Even some of the members of the school board, the real educators, disagree with him when he locks out the students for not keeping up their grades. The boys hate him, then love him. It sort of reminded me of a combination of "Lean on Me," and "To Sir With Love." I truly enjoyed this flick, and so did Air. Air especially liked the colloquialisms, and he was feelin' it. We couldn't relate to some of the problems the youth in this particular type of neighborhood were facing, but we are aware of them.

For any teachers, this movie was deeply energizing and refreshing to us as educators. See it the week before school starts up again!
