Must read Blogging
Even though i am not a huge fan of Dov Bear, he had a great post yesterday called Why the J-Blogosphere Matters.
I highly suggest reading it, as he talks about the role blogs play in bringing jewish issues to the forefront, in this case, specifically regarding the 20 million dollar lawsuit brought against Torah Temima in Brooklyn for their role in covering up one of their students alleged sexual abuse of students.
Here is the link.

If you read further into his blog, you can find the New York Magazine article which wrote the story about the abuse.

If you don't eat you meat, you can't have your pudding. how can you have your pudding if you don't eat your meat??????
.....for some reason, the first thing that popped into my head as I read this guy's snippy comment.
What's the bigger revelation?
That the Jblogs matter....or that you're not a big DB fan?
1. how do you know this rebbi is in fact guilty? maybe this is a massive smear campaign. the article was not exactly an example of hard-hitting investigative reporting. perhaps blogs matter only in the negative sense?
2. more to the point, why in fact are you not a fan of db?
I don't know if he is guilty. I didn't even read the article. However, I do hope that he is guilty now that everyone has read about him. I have been following from a distance through the OUJ blog for a while.
I thought that DBs post was very articulate, and I think blogs fulfill an important vaccuum in our society, which does not encourage transparency.
I am not a fan of DBs because I don't care much for blogs that spend their whole time linking to other sites on the Internet or write about politics. I also don't like the venom in which he goes after people who disagree with him, and I am not a fan of his attacks on Jewish traditions which he presents as fact and not as opinion.
Amen, brother!
Anon-Whether or not this particular Rabbi is guilty of these particular charges, does not change the fact that our schools and camps don't have much in the way of safeguarding our children or their own employees from possible false allegations (as employees often do spend time alone and unaccounted for). I think that we should use the story as an opportunity to enact safeguards.

Deserves repeating. Thanks for articulating this.
