Good Day, Eh

It started slowly, before building into a powerful force, before those final three minutes, when Jerusalem Pizza scored four times to steamroll through Strange Brew and clinch the team’s first playoff berth.

It began when Air Time took Neil’s pass at the point and fired past the goaltender for an early 1-0 lead. The route continued on as seven of Jerusalem Pizza’s eight players scored a goal, and Benji, the only one who couldn’t solve light the lamp, added some assists to his stat sheet.

It was a game where Jerusalem Pizza recommitted to its offense, switching lines and position, in an attempt to jump start the moribund offensive unit. The game started out tight, and the first period ended with JP ahead 2-0. JP never stopped attacking. The offense was in high gear, and with 90 seconds to play in the second period, with the team on a power play, Nathan scored to make it 5-0.

Strange Brew fell apart, and JP scored two more goals in the final minute of the period to make it 7-0.

Starnge Brew came out in the third period knowing they needed to score first, or the game would be over. Three minutes later it was, with Jerusalem Pizza winning 8-0 on a mercy-rule shortened game.

It was a game of slap shots and tip ins and crisp passing. Where Jerusalem Pizza recaptured the magic from earlier in the season, and clinched a playoff spot in their inaugural season.

It wasn’t all offense for the Gold and Blue. DC played a stellar game between the pipes, flopping and sliding and stopping every opportunity Strange Brew could muster for his third shutout of the season. The newly crafted defensive units played strong. And smart. And passionately.

Now they are going to the playoffs.
