Is Sonny Dead Yet
I am friends with Yehudah. Yehudah is friends with Sonny. Sonny is a girl. I don't know Sonny very well.
That's all the background you really need, although I could tell you more about Yehudah. He has an imaginary girlfriend. Her name is Cindy, and she lives in the closet space at the top of the room. He calls her his Boidim girl, because he is told that the loft area is called a Boidim.
Yehudah also listens to REM all the time. His favorite song is Losing My Religion, though by all accounts, he is not in the middle of any personal religious crisis. He enjoys playing Trivial Pursuit, and is known for playing late into Friday night and then sleeping through davening on Shabbos morning.
He is funny in a quirky way, and is usually good to hang out with.
So that is more about Yehudah than you would ever need to know.
Anyway, one day, Sonny calls Yehudah, and says she is going to die. She is planning on spending Shabbos on the other side of the Green Line, and fears for her safety. She hopes Yehudah can somehow save her.
A few days pass, and now it is Sunday. If Sonny is alive, she is back in her dorm. If she is dead, the girls in her dorm will know that information as well.
This is Yehudah's calculation, not mine. I am with yehudah. We are hangning out at the Plaza, probably on our way to or from Supersol.
Yehudah has to make a quick call, to check in on Sonny.
He puts in his Asimon, and dials her dorm. Some random girl answers the phone. Hello, is Sonny dead yet, Yehudah asks. The voice on the other end of the phone does not know what to say. She asks if Yehudah wants to speak to Sonny. No, Yehudah says, I just need to know if she is dead yet.
The girl on the other end of the phone says to hold on, says she will get Sonny.
Yehudah believes this is confirmation as to Sonny's being alive. He hangs up the phone, and we continue our day.
It is only weeks later, when Yehudah mentions to Sonny that he called to check up on her, that we find out the panic and chaos that took over the dorm, when everyone was worried that someone was after Sonny.
