Can your city top this?

And does it want to?

2006 - Super Bowl
2005 - MLB All Star Game, NBA finals
2004 - NBA Finals
2002 - Stanley Cup Finals
1998 - Stanley Cup Finals
1997 - Stanley Cup Finals
1995 - Stanley Cup Finals
1991 - NBA Finals
1990 - NBA Finals
1989 - NBA Finals
1984 - World Series

All that, two new stadiums, three casinos, high unemployment, high crime and kids suffering from poverty at levels worse than in rural Mississippi.

I know, I know. Just an oppurtunity to show everyone that NY is #1.

From ESPN page 2 There's no place like Detroit
"Detroit is the best sports town in America. It blows away New York, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia. With the car industry dying and Motown dead, sports is all Detroit's got"

"Detroit is the old high school sweetheart who landed the boy who went on to win the Heisman Trophy and put together a Hall of Fame career. Yes, she lost her hourglass figure three kids ago, and suffered through some painful public infidelity. But now, in her 40s, she's still on the arm of the man of most women's dreams, controls most of his money, and has the freedom, emotional leverage and confidence to come and go as she pleases."

last I checked none of the NY super bowls were played in NY.

I also think you forgot the 2004 World Series. Weren't the Yankees up 3-0 in the ALCS?

Are all Detroit stadiums (stadia?) within city limits?

"I also think you forgot the 2004 World Series. Weren't the Yankees up 3-0 in the ALCS?"

I had erased that from my hard drive. Thanks for the reminder.

the Joe, Comerica Park and Ford field are all in the heart of downtown. The only suburbanite is the Pistons.

Yeah, last time I checked, not taking place in your state doesn't count. Even though, the Palace is in Auburn Hills, it's still in the state of Michigan. Get over it Krum.

I think that's spliitng hairs but I would agree that including the devils' cups is stretching things. Jets and Giants are still considered NY teams event thought they play accross the river.

I think his point, as well as mine, is that the Super Bowl games were played in Detroit. The Lions have never made it to the Super Bowl.

Krum,

The super bowls were in Pasadena, Tampa and some other warm wether site. Are they even in the same half of the united states as NY.

Last time I checked jets and giants played in NJ.

Now we're talking tachlis. Krum, you can't count more than one team from each major sport (do you really root for both the Islanders and the Rangers and the Devils?)

The best you can do since 1980 is 10 (4 Yanks, 4 Icelanders, 2 Gints) and who really roots for that combo anyway?

We have 7 in a metro area 1/6 the size of yours and we haven't even begun to talk about major college ball (where have you gone, Lou Carnesseca?).

Nice try Krum

Oh Krum, you put your foot in it this time. Detroit may not be pretty. As ESPN said, she may be an over-weight has been, but when it comes to sports, we'll fight your yuppy wall street bums any day with our blue coller stamina. You aint gonna win. You might as well give up now.
