Good Luck and Never Come Back

Tomorrow, over 500 people are making Aliyah through Nefesh B'Nefesh. It is the largest number of North American Olim for a single day, at least according to Arutz Sheva.

Which means that right now, they are getting ready to board a flight that is taking them, where?

To the unknown, to a new land with a different language and different customs. They will find jobs and learn the language and send their kids to school and to the army adjust to their new life there.

And I'm sure it will be hard, but I'm confident they'll make it.

Because they are doing more than merely emigrating to another country.

They're going home.

Today, Toronto had a full Nefesh b'Nefesh plane bound for Israel for the first time. The news garnered lots of countrywide publicity and community awareness and honorings -- two families from our children's day school; families from our shul were among those flying "home."

Two years ago we moved houses. The people from whom we bought our second house made aliya that July 2003 through Nefesh b'Nefesh; they gave up their house in order to go home...

Sometimes my husband wonders aloud if we should be doing the same...

Top 3 strikes against aliya

1. Buying a house in the US
2. Kids who are already teenagers
3. Caring for older parents/relatives.

Bottom line: Move as early as possible. Get here as soon as you can.

The later you wait, the more likely the only thing you'll be able to afford is a non-air-conditioned 450 sq-ft caravan in south central Be'er Sheva.

Good Luck - Come Home Soon. We're waiting!!!

G-d bless organizations like NBN. If not for them, I would never have been able to become am Israeli citizen in under 3 weaks after being here as a tourist. They are truly amazing. They're making Aliyah so easy, and have a person or department that deals with any needs or questions that you may have. I don't work for them or anything. I think they just truly are amazing. And, if any of you are thinking of making Aliyah, it's truly never been as easy as it is now, now that Nefesh B'Nefesh exists.
COME HOME!!! WE'RE WAITING!!! THE DOOR IS OPEN!!!
All you have to do get the courage to walk through it.

to tell the truth, the whole aliya thing is highly overrated.
the biggest reason is that it is far easier to raise orthodox, normal, children in a reasonably sized north american city.

that country is totally nuts, and everyone is constatly in financial straits.

the chinuch is insane, polarizing and politicizing children needlessly.

really, you are better off staying home than going off to that foreign land at this point.

Air, I think we should consider getting rid of anonymous comments. They don't seem worthwhile...

veev,
dissent is healthy for a social organism, even one of the cyber variety.
though i do understand your need for an unviolated comfort zone where there is no challenge and we are all in happy agreement.

Anon-

Rambam says it is better to live in Israel in a city that is predominantly full of Avodah Zara than to live in a city in Chutz LaAretz that is a Makom Torah.

i think that Aliyah through Nefesh B'Nefesh is the most beautiful and rewarding way of making the trek home. We have been away for so long, some poeple have lost their way, Nefesh B'Nefesh is lighting the path. "Aliyah, its easier done then said" Spread the word to all those still in chul, Nefesh B'Nefesh is the only way home. There is nothing to lose, except the headache.
